Time for a Dino Crisis remake
Recently we have seen Capcom breathing new life into some of its classic games, Resident Evil 2 and the recently announced Resident Evil 3 Nemesis. So why can’t we get a Dino Crisis remake?
Back in the 90’s when dinosaurs first made it to our big screens in the form of the world phenomenon Jurassic Park, nobody expected the success of Dino Crisis. It would have taken quite a lot of bravery and courage to come up with a concept like this one so well done to the developers deciding to try something new and give us flesh eating dinos!
The first story follows three special agents who are forced to survive a deadly island overrun by dinosaurs all while looking for Dr. Kirk, a mad scientist responsible for bringing dinosaurs into the future. You play as Regina, the hot redhead with a black bathing suit and tights (not really my idea of safe armour for a wild dino run OR ANY MISSION) as you work your way through the island to reach his secret lair.
Like Resident Evil and RE2, Dino Crisis does its best to scare you, and if you don’t scare easily it at least leaves you with the fear of something waiting for you around the corner. The developers from Dino Crisis stayed close to the design of Capcom’s very successful survival horror games in the Resident Evil series, but they learned to improve on the smaller details. Things like allowing the player to move while shooting, as well as allowing Regina to hold more than one weapon at a time which I believe are both SUPER nifty ideas for staying alive in any survival game.
So why are we still waiting for a Dino Crisis remake? 20 years has been a pretty long wait, we see far too many zombie movies, games and books but when we think of Dinosaurs we mostly just recall Jurassic Park. Imagine Capcom waving the remake wand on Dino Crisis, imagine them mastering the remake like they did for RE2. It would be beautiful!
The developers already have the story, I mean fans are already remastering their own version of the game on Unreal Engine. Which I think is rather amazing, the Arklay team developers are quietly sparking hope all around the world and with what I have seen so far I can understand why gamers are talking about it. If Capcom sees the work they have done and take the viewers into consideration i’m sure they will start with a remake soon.
Even if Capcom doesn’t give us a classic remake can’t they continue with the story after Dino Crisis 2? Did Regina ever get back to Dylan and Paula? Will they ever get off the island? We need to know what happened to them!!
There was a Dino Crisis 3 released in 2003 which honestly I really didn’t enjoy playing at all and I think it should be ignored entirely in the series and story telling of the game. It left us with more questions than answers!!
A Dino Crisis remake is way overdue and I personally think Capcom needs to put a hold on any further Resident Evil remakes and give their fans what they want, AGAIN. We want dinosaurs!!
I really have high hopes for the fan made remake and I have a feeling that they are going to leave us craving more. We can only hope that Capcom sees our cry for help and starts with a remake soon.
I’m sure im not the only one who has asked the question. It’s been 20 years since the first Dino Crisis has been released and with Capcom’s recent success with the new Resident Evil games I would really hope that Dino Crisis is soon to follow.
Love what I do?
