Q&A with AzuraCub
I’ve been writing and posting on my blog for over a year now and in that time I’ve grown more than I ever possibly could have imagined. But so far I have only posted my own thoughts, opinions, and questions so I decided to try something completely different. This time I wanted you, my readers, to simply ask me a question or two which I would then answer in one big blog post.
So let’s get right into some of the questions!
Where did you grow up and what city do you currently live in? And what is your favorite anime opening?
I grew up in a small town close to the Vaal Dam. I’ve lived here for most of my life, apart from moving to Johannesburg and Cape Town for work. Currently, I’m back at home with my parents still trying to find my feet.
My favorite anime opening… that’s honestly a really difficult one since I love anime and I watch a lot of them. But if I HAD to pick one it will forever be my childhood favorite “Mew Mew Power” as I have very fond memories as a child of the anime. It was a show that brought me much joy and helped shape my imagination as I grew up.
What was your worst rage moment in an online game? And, what peripheral took the most damage from the rage?
It’s probably not going to help if I tell you I’ve never raged before because if I do I’m sure my friends would step in very quickly and call me out on my lie. I find that playing Overwatch brings out the worst in me sometimes as I’m dealing with very horrible internet as well as no skill and I get picked off easily. That’s when I start talking as if I’m a pro, acting like I made the game and know best. That said though, I personally don’t like to rage at others as it can spoil everyone’s mood, and if they are having fun it’s not my place to ruin that on them.
Currently, in my more ‘heated’ moments, my laptop is suffering the blows as it has a very annoying habit of getting stuck and taking control of the mouse pointer, making me start spinning like a mad person in any game I play. It is easily fixed with a quick slap where it seems to be getting stuck. However, I’m afraid that someday I might give it a critical hit and then its game over for real.
If you could only play one game for the rest of the time, which one would you choose?
Nier Automata. This was a bit of a shock for me as I love anything and everything Mass Effect but if it had to be one game it has to be Nier Automata purely because of the music and the story. With all the endings it’s a game that feels like it can go on forever and with each ending completed the game just gets harder.
The music just helps the story along and it’s something I could listen to over and over again without feeling sick about it after a while.
What made you want to start a blog? Did you find it difficult to start?
Starting the blog was something I never myself saw doing. I always had these ideas and opinions I wanted to share but it has always been something I’ve been too scared to do. Finally, after the right amount of motivation was talked into me I decided to give it a go!
Starting was definitely difficult as I would take forever to come up with something to write, worrying if people would read it and if they would like it. My first few blog posts would have me feeling very sick before I had to post them. Finding the right audience to share the articles with was also stressful because I was stepping into an entirely new world without knowing anyone.
What three game characters would you choose to go with you on a dangerous adventure and why?
Commander Shepard (Mass Effect) – Everyone knows who she is and seeing as she’s one of the characters I aspire to be like it’s obvious that I would have my role model with me.
Lightning (Final Fantasy 13) – She’s one of the bravest soldiers we know and is someone who is very skilled in combat. It’s also clear why I would want her on my team.
Clementine (Telltale season 1) I’m mentioning Clem from season one as she is still very pure during that part of the story. She is not a skilled killer but I think it’s important to have those characteristics with you as you go on dangerous adventures so we don’t forget what is important and who we are.
What would you trade for Garrus to become a real person?
A lifetime supply of free candy… for those who know me, they know that I don’t share my sweets so this was a really hard call to make but… anything for Garrus :)
What is the best game you have ever played?
Final Fantasy 9. Nothing will beat it! It was the very first gaming experience I had on my own. I remember watching my dad play a lot of games on the PS1 so being allowed to pick up the controller and finally getting to go on that adventure on my own was definitely what started my love for video gaming. I fell in love with the story and its characters instantly but I think it’s the excitement I felt while playing it that will forever make it the best game for me.
List your three favorite articles you wrote.
This one is tough! I have enjoyed every single one of my articles to some extent… If I absolutely had to choose though I’d say these three:
The Frustrations of a Girl Gamer In Lockdown
This Is The Story I’ve Been Too Afraid To Tell Until Now
Why Did I Relate To Commander Shepard As A Young Adult?
I’ll let you read them and decide for yourself if they’re your favorites though :)
What is your favorite video on YouTube? Why do you like it?
Shirley Curry’s Documentary. I only recently found her videos online but I’m greatly enjoying her content. Purely because they are all so wholesome and pure. Her content is about sharing her love and passion for her favorite video games, and it’s not every day that we get to see content as sweet and good as hers.
Who is your favorite Ninja Turtle and why is it, Leonardo?
Hmm well, Leo is an okay turtle but my all-time favorite would be Raphael!!
What was the first game you ever played?
Dragon Ball Z. Shocking I know since it was not supposed to be my first video game. as my mom and dad originally got me Chicken Run for my birthday. However, it sadly didn’t work and they took the game back and picked up DBZ instead. On a brighter note, I did get to play it with my dad and little sister!
What’s the fondest memory/story you have of gaming?
Easy, watching my dad play games. It’s how I started my journey playing video games and I have very fond memories of sitting with my dad having him show me how to get through obstacles in a game.
How different would your life be if you never started playing games?
Honestly, if I think about it I would probably be an even more shy and a lot more withdrawn type of person. In real life, I’m actually really quiet in person. I definitely think my life would have been a lot boring and I would not have this wild imagination I currently have if I didn’t get into gaming!
What sparked your love for writing?
I think it is honestly just to share how I feel about games with people and being allowed to be nerdy about it. For years I did my best to hide my love for games. Being so passionate about something and then not being very open about it for so long is something I regret as I feel that it is very important to be yourself.
Also, while I was in school I was told that writing was something I wouldn’t be able to do because of my reading disability and the fact that spelling was a really big issue for me (and honestly sometimes still is) because I have dyslexia. So when I got into text based video games that taught me how to read better it sparked a love for making up stories of my own. Somehow it proved to me that I can do anything I set my mind to and since starting the blog and sharing my opinions and stories with people my love for writing has only got deeper :)
Thank you to everyone who asked and took part in this! There were a lot of really fun questions! I’ll try and do it as often as I can. But now it’s your turn to take a question or two that I was asked from this blog post and comment your answers below.
I can’t wait to read all of your answers :)

I enjoyed the read, and will be reading your others very soon. Thank you for getting Mew Mew Power and grace stuck in my head haha.
Hi Crums!
I loved Mew Mew Power and nothing puts me in a better mood than hearing the theme song. It brings back so many wonderful memories and Im so thankful for them. Have you watched the full series yet or only what was on the TV back then?
Lots of Love
