My First Week In The World Of Pokémon GO!
So I decided that I wanted to try my hand at the sensation that has captured the hearts of many mobile gamers.
By now everyone and their mom has heard about Pokémon through either the games, movies or anime series (can you believe that it’s been airing for over 22 years!?!) so when I finally decided to dip my toes into the world of Pokémon I was worried that I would be completely lost. Thankfully Pokémon GO is actually super easy to pick up!!
I stay in a pretty small town so I was honestly not expecting to find ANY Pokéstops at all but when I discovered two Pokéstops so close to each other IN MY SUPER SMALL TOWN it was pretty awesome!! At first I was not mentally prepared for how much walking would have to be done if I wanted to catch some Pokémon. However I later found it really easy to want to go and walk and practice by throwing skills.
The first thing I noticed about the Pokémon GO community was that they were all very welcoming and supporting. As I began my journey into the world of Pokémon I immediately wanted to catch as many Pokémon as I possibly could! Very quickly I started running low on Pokéballs (like reeeaaalllyyy low) and that’s when I asked the community for help. Without expecting anything to happen I put out a tweet on my Twitter. Within 20 minutes I was swarmed with friend invites and players sending me ingame gifts!! All the gifts contained goodies like Pokéballs, Stardust, Pokémon Eggs, and much more! Within an hour they had helped me to stock up on tonnes Pokéballs so that I could continue my training and catch more Pokémon! Although I was a little sad to find out the hard way that gifts are limited to 20 per day and would only reset at midnight.
Overall, the only thing I dislike about the game is that my phone battery never holds out long enough for me to go play all day long. I do however like the fact that you can customise the looks and style of your own trainer and that you can have your have “buddy” Pokémon by your side as you take part in the journey of becoming the very best.
The gameplay is easy to understand and really you only need 3 things to be good at the game:
- Know your Pokémon types and matchups and you will be fine in a battle.
- You need to have a good set of “tapping” fingers to win a battle.
- Have great aim when you try and catch Pokémon (Which I don’t and it’s partly the reason I have very few Pokeballs left… again)
Downloading Pokémon GO really made me want to move about and explore around my town so I could see what Pokémon there were. I’ve also found that I now really want to travel a bit in order for me to get more and more location specific Pokémon, since I’ve heard that some are region locked! This mobile game is one that really stands out to me as something that’s a bit different. A game that keeps its players moving and more importantly wanting to get outside is no mean feat! Never before have parents been so happy to see their kids want to step out and grab some fresh air!
This is not just another Pokémon game and it’s like no other mobile game I have ever seen. I’m sure that Pokémon GO will be the groundwork for so many other mobile games in the future. Pokémon GO has made every child’s, grownup’s dream come true by allowing us to become the trainers we always dreamt we could be.
